The yolk is the main energy source for eggs and marine fsh larvae. Temperature is a key factor in determining the efciencyof yolk conversion into body tssues, which can a?ect the size larvae at frst feeding. In this work, the e?ect of di?erent temperatureson the yolk sac consumpton and oil droplet by the spoted rose snapper, Lutjanus gutatus was evaluated, in order to determinethe adequate culture temperature during the frst days afer hatch. The fertlized eggs were placed in 20 L plastc tanks at di?erenttemperatures (22, 25, 28 and 31 °C) with three replicates per treatment. The tme and percentage of hatching, larvae total length,yolk consumpton (TCV) and oil droplet (TCGA) rates at 0, 24, 48 and 72 h afer hatching (HDE) were determined. Eggs incubated at22 °C did not hatch, while hatching tme in eggs incubated at 31 °C decreased signifcantly. No di?erences were observed in hatchingpercentage between treatments of temperature. Larvae reared at 31 °C obtained the higher length value than those reared at 25° C at0 and 24 HDE. The yolk and oil droplet were consumed faster by larvae reared at 31 °C at 0 and 24 HDE. Total mortality was registeredfor larvae reared at 25 and 31 °C at 48 and 72 HDE, respectvely. The optmal temperature for egg incubaton and newly-hatched L.gutatus larvae was 28 °C, which would favorably impel the consumpton of energy reserves for its growth and survival.
