In the last ten years, in Romania and Eastern European countries, more and more consumers reclaim fruits with higher antioxidant properties for a healthy diet and a healthy life. Most frequent fruits included in such category are berries (blueberries, currants, chokeberry, raspberry, blackberry) and Goji. Therefore, a lot of growers start to cultivate different types of Lycium sp. starting from seeds or cuttings.But seed germination is influenced by specific taxonomic particularities and by the ambiental conditions. Therefore, we initiated a comparative study for the germination capacity of the Lycium barbarum L. and Lycium chinense Mill. Seeds from different stages and condition, as well as provenience, fresh or dehydrated fruits were used in current research.The biotype demonstrated to influence the seeds capacity of germination in the Lycium sp. In this regard, it results that the highest percentage of seed germination (GP) and germination value (GV) were obtained as well from some biotypes extracted from fresh fruits (Biotype AS, Biotype BUA and Biotype 410) but also from fruits subjected to the process of dehydration (Biotypes 9, S and Zh).Biotypes belonging to Lycium chinense Mill. hadproveda higher germination capacity than biotypes of Lycium barbarum L.
