The organ transplantation is a surgical intervention in which a failing or damaged organ in the human body is removed and replaced with a new one. The medical practice of organ transplantation has grown over the last 50 years and the biggest achievement was the first successful heart transplant. The number of donated organs has stayed fairly constant over the last few years while the number of people needing organs continues to increase. Many explanations are offered, such as the number of new medical technological advances and the aging population. Knowing that there are more people who need organs than there are available organs, a series of ethical questions has grown up. Since one cadaveric donor can provide multiple organs, this is a natural method to look to increase the number of available organs, but the efforts to increase the number of cadaveric donors have met with much debate and controversy.
