Obstetric hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of pre ventable maternal deaths in the world. There are 14 millioncases of postpartum hemorrhage and 140 thousand relateddeaths annually worldwide.1 There is also a large contingentof women who survive a postpartum hemorrhage event withrelated reproductive and emotional consequences. Postpar tum hemorrhage stands out as the second major cause ofmaternal deaths in Brazil.2 However, it continues to be aleading cause of numerous preventable maternal deaths inmany areas of the country, especially the countryside and theAmazon region, where there is a low density of health carefacilities, fewer health care professionals, and an inefficientlogistic network for quickly obtaining blood supply.
