Bulk carbon nanomaterials based on graphene and other sp2 carbon nanopolymorphs are structures with a low density but high resistance to compression. These materials are promising candidates for supercapacitors, electronics, energy storage devices, etc. due to their unique properties such as extremely high specific surface area, high conductivity and stability against graphitization. In this review, after a brief overview of the structure of graphene and its mechanical properties, recent developments in the fabrication and understanding of mechanical properties of three-dimensional graphene nanostructures are discussed.
