Adipose tissue as an alternative source for regenerative medicine

Adipose tissue is an alternative source in cell therapy due to various factors such as its easy extraction, its high content of mesenchymal stem cells and their capacity of ex vivo expansion which can be equivalent or even superior to cells obtained from bone marrow in terms of its ability of differentiation potential of angiogenesis and its immunomodulatory effects in inflammation. These cells have the following expression profile: positive staining for CD29, CD44, CD54, CD90, CD105 and HLA-I; and negative for CD45, CD116, CD14, CD31 and HLA-II. At present, there is evidence that the stem cells derived from adipose tissue has have the potential to differentiate in addition to cells of mesodermal origin as neurons, pancreatic cells, endocrine, hepatocytes, cardiomyocytes and epithelial cells, among others. Because of All these factors and the absence of ethical and immunological problems suggest a new possibility in the treatment of many diseases common to everyday medical practice.
