Effects of 3% of marl addition in feed on weight gain, intestinal morphometry, bone quality and moisture droppings were studied in broiler chickens through two trials. For each test, 240 male day-old chicks (ISA15), weighing an average of 42,5± 1g were randomly allocated into control and experimental (with 3% marl supplementation) groups. They were further divided into six sub-groups and each sub-group contained 20 chickens. During the finisher phase (d48-d50), fresh droppings for 3 consécutive days were collected and weighed. At the age of 8 weeks, the chicken were weighed in order to determine the live body weight and immediately slaughtered to assess bone quality and the intestinal morphometry. In the first trial, marl significantly improved the dry matter of droppings (+20% ; P=0,04) and the duodenum relative weight (+15% ; P=0,01). Histological results showed that the marl significantly increased the height of the jejunum villi (+25,9% ; P=0,001) and the duodenum crypts (+20,6% ; P=0,03), but not those of the jejunum and the ileum. In the second trial, the addition of 3% of marl significantly increased the body weight gain (+6,6% ; P=0,03), relative tibia weight (+7,3% ; P=0,01) and the tibia index (+13,4% ; P=0,001). Responses found in this study confirm potential of marl to enhance growth performances, moisture droppings and to improve the intestinal health, the well-being and the bone quality of broiler.
