GlossinafuscipesfuscipesisamongtheimportanttsetsespeciesofeconomicimportanceinTanzania.Theflyhasawidegeographicdistributioninsub-SaharanAfrica.Theinformationondistributionandpopulationsizeofanyflyspecieiscrucialwhenplanningcontrolstrategiesagainsttsetseasithelpstotellwheretostarttrapsdeploymentaswellasestimateofthenumberoftrapstobedeployedonaparticulararea.PopulationsizeanddistributionestimatestudieswerecarriedoutalongtheshoresofLakeVictoriainTanzania.ThestudyinvolvedKirongwe,Masonga,RasiNyaberoandTobweRivervillagesinRoryadistrict,MsozivillageinUkerewedistrictandKemondovillageinBukobadistrict.nbsp;TheresultsshowedthatthespeciesiswidelydistributedalongtheshoresofLakeVictoria.ItextendsfromthenortheastoftheLakeinKirongwevillageinRoryadistrictthatbordersKenyatoKinasevillagethatborderMusomadistrict.ItfurtherextendstothenorthwestoftheLakeVictoriatoRubafuRuinavillagesthatborderUgandaandalsoinKemondoareas,justclosetoBukobatown.FlieswerealsofoundinsmallvisitedIslandsinRoryadistrictnamely,BugambwaandNgonsheinSubadivision.Thebiggest,UkereweIslandwasalsoinfestedwithG.f.fuscipesinMsozivillageandNamabugovillagenearNansiotown.Masongahadthehighestflyabundanceof9.10±0.501FTD(flypertrapperday)comparedtoothervillageswhileTobweRiverhadtheleastabundanceof0.94±0.501FTDduringthedryseason.Asimilartrendwasalsoobservedforthewetseason,Masongahadthehighestabundanceof6.40±0.501FTDandTobweRiverhadtheleastabundanceof1.63±0.501.Basedontheresultsofthisstudy,ifcontrolactivitiesaretobeundertaken,moretrapsandtargetsareneededinMasongaandRasiNyaberovilagesthaninKirongweandTobweRiver.Agestructureresultselucidatethatmanyfliescaughtwereyoungfliesaging0to14daysandfewflieswereinwingcategory4,5and6.Thecontroltechnologytobeusedwillbedealingwithyounggenerationofflieswhicharemainlyteneralsandlookingformatingthuscaneasilysuccumbtobaits(trapsandtargets)ifeffectivelyexecuted.Therewassignificantvariationoftrapsperformancebetweendifferentstudysites.Furtherresearchisrequiredtoclarifythecauseofthisvariationwithlocations.
