Biocharapplicationtoimprovesoilsfertilityandcropyieldhasbeenincreasinglyconcernedworldwidetocombatsoilsdegradationwhilemitigatethegreenhousegases.However,theeffectshavenotbeendeterminedinawiderrangeofcropsespeciallyvegetables.ThisexperimentwascarriedoutattheIntegratedFarmingDemonstrationCentre,ChampasackUniversity,LaoPDRtodeterminetheeffectsofbiocharandbiodigestereffluentonsoilpropertiesandyieldofYardlongbean.Sixtreatmentswerearrangedinarandomizedcompleteblockdesign(RCBD)asa2*3factorialwith4replications.Thefactorswere:1)biocharapplicationrateat0or40t/ha;and2)levelofbiodigestereffluent:0,50or100kgN/ha.BiocharwasobtainedfromricehuskintheTopLidUpdraft(TLUD)gasifierstoveandeffluentwascollectedfroma#8220;plug-flow#8221;tubularpolyethylenebiodigester.Measurementofsoilphysicalproperties,yieldcomponentandyieldofYardlongbeanwereperformed.nbsp;ApplicationofbiocharandeffluentincreasedtheyieldofYardlongbeanby50%comparedtothecontroltreatment.Emptypodsofthebeanwerereduced2foldwhenbiocharwasappliedat40t/ha.SoilpHwasimprovedduetobiocharamendment.Waterholdingcapacityofthesoilwassignificantlyincreasedwhenbiocharwasappliedatalllevelsofeffluentwhichcouldbeagoodsignforwaterefficiencyusage.
