AninvestigationwasundertakentodeterminetherelationshipofHCNcontentinSorghumwithsoilnitrogenandphosphorus,plantageatharvest,varietiesofSorghumandfindoutdeterminantsofreducingHCNcontentinSorghum.DataregardingtheNandPlevelofsoilofdifferentvillageswerecollectedfromthesoilresearchstation,Deesa,Gujarat.GreenSorghumfoddersampleofdifferentvarietiesatdifferentstagesofplantgrowthwerecollectedonfiveoccasionsat10daysintervalfromrandomlyselectedtenvillagesofBanaskanthadistrict.Outof250greenSorghumfoddersamples,8werenegative,92showeddarkbrickredcolourandremainingsamplesshowedorangetobrickredcolourinpicratepapertest,whichwereharvestedat10-20daysaftersowing.ItindicatedpresenceofcomparativelyhigherHCNcontentintheimmatureplants.Significantly(P0.01)decreasingtrendinHCNcontentwasobservedwiththeadvancementintheplantgrowth.SorghumfoddergrownonsoilhighinNandPhadhigherHCNcontent.Itwashigherinhybridvarietieslikeduchuniyo,CSH-17andGJ-39ascomparedtolocalsorghumvarietylikemalavan,alsogrownasfodder.TheHCNcontentofgreen(fresh)Sorghumfodderbeforeandaftersundryingwasalmostsame,howeveritwasreducednbsp;significantly(P0.01)tonontoxiclevelonovendryingatdifferenttimeintervalunderthestudy.HCNcontentisreducedtonon-toxiclevelafter45-50daysofsowinginmostofthevarietiesofSorghumfodderexcept;GJ-39andCSH-17.ItwasconcludedthatGreenSorghumfoddercanbefedsafelyafter45-50daysofsowingoratanystageofgrowthafterovendrying.
