Inordertoestimategeneticparametersforgrowthtraits.Asampleof9673phenotypicrecordsofpigsfromCC21CubanGeneticCenterquot;TheJigüequot;evaluatedinfieldperformancetestintheperiod1993-2005.Traitsstudiedwere:weaningweight(WW),weightat100days(P100)andfinalweight(FW)forbeingthemostaffectedbymaternaleffects,andtheagesatweaning,andfinalconversionaslinearcovariates.Weusedfourcombinationsofmodelsthatincludeddependingonthedirecteffects,maternalandpermanentenvironment.Asfixedeffectthematricialmodelcontemporarygroups(year-bimestre-sex)wereusedaswellasparity.Heritability(h2)foreverytraitwascalculatedaccordingtouni-characteranimalmodeltheRemlmethodologythroughWOMBATprogramwasemployed.Inthemodelwherethematernaleffectsandpermanentenvironmentwerenottakenintoaccounttheadditivevariance(s2a)showedsuperiorvalues.TheheritabilityindicesfortheadditiveeffectsofWW,W100,WFwereof0,05;0,09and0,07andinverselytothematernaleffectforthesimilartraits,withvaluesof0,06;0,02and0,02respectively.Theresultsoftheassaysindicatethattheeffectincludedinsidethemodeldeterminesthebehaviorofthecomponentsofco-varianceandtoothegeneticcorrelationamongthedirectandmaternaleffectsisnegative.Itissuggestedthatexistenceofageneticantagonismbetweenthepotentialofgrowthandthematernaleffect.nbsp;
