TheexperimentwasconductedatTarjungavillageofChhattisgarhtostudytheimpactofduckdroppingsonphysico-chemical,biologicalparametersofpondecosystemandoveralltheproductionoffish.Thepondwasstockedwith6000fingerlings/haofindianmajorcarps(IMC)toutilizethemaximumenergyinthetanksthroughpolyculture.Theiraveragesizewas90±20mm.ThispondcontainingthefingerlingsofIMCwasthenintegratedwithducks(Anasplatyrhinos)toservethepurposeofobtainingtheeggsandmeatasalsodelivertheexcretaintothetankduringwildgrazing.nbsp;Undersuchculturalpracticeatvillagelevelnosupplementaryfeedwasgiventothefishwhiletheduckswerefedwithfreshkitchenleftoversandagriculturalbyproductsaskanki(brokencerealgrains),kodha(ricebran)whichareeasilyavailablecommoditiesinruralareas.nbsp;Themeandrymatterloadingrateofduckexcretawas6.2kg/ha/dayintothepondandasaresultthephysico-chemicalparametersasdissolvedoxygen,pH,alkalinitychangedsignificantlyintreatedpondandplanktonvolumealsoimprovedconsiderably.Theseparametersintotalityaffecttheoverallfishproductionraisingfrom1.5to2.8tonnes/ha/yr.Theaverageeggproductionwas122±9bird-1yr-1.nbsp;Theresultsconcludethatintegrationoffishwithduckismoreprofitablethanfarmingnbsp;fishalonewithnoinputsunderruralconditionsofChhattisgarh.
