Additionofprotein-richby-productstolowqualitycropresiduesimprovedtheirnutritionalpotentialandserveasfeedresourcetoruminantsespeciallyduringthedryseason.Sugarcanetop(SCT)wasensiledwithbroilerlitter(BL)atvaryingproportionsof0,15,30and45%respectivelyusing1kgcapacityplasticbucketslinedwithblackpolythenebagsunderroomtemperaturefor14,28and42days.Allsilagescontained20gmolasses.Thephysicalcharacteristics,fermentativeparametersandchemicalcompositionofthesilagesweredetermined.Resultsrevealedthatthephysicalpropertiesofsilagesimprovedwithadditionofbroilerlitter.Ensilingperiodshadnosignificanteffect(P0.05)onthepHofthesilages.Additionofbroilerlitterincreased(P0.05)silagepH,aceticacid,andammonianitrogenconcentrations.Thedrymatterandcrudeproteincontentsofthesilageincreased(P0.05)withincreaseinthelevelofbroilerlitter.Sugarcanetopwith45%BLensiledfor42daysrecordedthehighest(P0.05)drymatterandcrudeproteincontents(41.20%and13.87%).Etherextractandashcontentswerelowestin0%BLtreatedsilages.Neutraldetergentfibre,aciddetergentfibreandaciddetergentlignincontentswerelowestin45%BLtreatedSCTensiledfor42days(60.63,34.20and10.69%).Itwasconcludedthatensilingsugarcanetopwith45%broilerlitterincreasedthenutrientcontentandfeedingpotentialofsugarcanetop.
