Theannualpigproductioniscriticalforproducersmanagingcommercialfarms.Thus,theobjectiveofthestudywastodeterminetheeffectofsomeenvironmentalfactorsontheproductionof30ormorepigletspersowperyearinSoutheasternMexico.Informationfrom2008to2012offourcommercialfarmslocatedinYucatan,Mexicowereused.Dataonsowsproducing30ormorepigletsbornaliveperyear(PB/S/Y,n=7471)andsowsproducing30ormoreweanedpigletsperyear(PW/S/Y,n=7181)werecodeas1,otherwiseas0.Datawereanalyzedusingbinarylogisticregression.Thestatisticalmodelincludedtheeffectsoffarm,yearoffirstfarrowing,seasonoffistfarrowing,reasonofculling,numberofpigsbornaliveatfirstfarrowing,productivelifetimeandageatfirstfarrowing.nbsp;Thefrequenciesofsowswith30ormorePB/S/Yinfarms1to4rangedfrom4.30to19.6%,andforPW/S/Ythefrequenciesrangedfrom1.24to14.4%.Farm,year,reasonofculling,numberofpigletsbornatfirstfarrowing,productivelifetimeandageatfirstfarrowing,wereallassociatedwiththeproductionof30ormorePB/S/Y,butforPW/S/Ythenumberofpigletsbornatfirstfarrowingandageatfirstfarrowingwerenotimportantsourcesofvariation.FarmdifferencesforPB/S/YandPW/S/Yindicatesdifferencesinsomemanagementpractices.Reducingthereasonsofcullingbyreproductiveproblems,andincreasingthecareofearlyfirstparitysowswithlargelitersizesmayincreaseproductivityinthefarms.
