Byproducts and wastes from date palm: a promising alternative feed resource for livestock in dry regions of Algeria

Contributingtothefoodsafetyofthecountry,isdevelopingallitsresourcesfordirectandindirectrationaluse.Thecoursesknowacontinuousdegradation,whichisnotinfavouroffoodavailabilityforthelivestock.Intheoasisareas,thisconstraintisattenuatedbythesystematicuseofthevariouselementsofthepalmplantation.Theinvestigations,during3yearsonallthebasinofBasSaharainAlgeriaandtheanalyticalstudyrevealanunquestionablewealthbythevariouselementsofthepalmplantationintendedforthefoodofcattle:drypalm,pedicels,coreofdates,wasteofthedatepaste,rejectofdatesandinedibledates.Thestockbreedersofoasisconfirm,throughthevarioustraditionalusesoftheseelements#8220;waste#8221;intheanimalfeed,thattheyareusefultoalltypesoflivestockandanycategoriesofage.Indeed,thetwotypesoffood(coarseandconcentrate)arerepresentedrespectivelybythepedicelsandtherejectsofdates.Thechemicalcompositionofthepedicelsiscomparablewiththatofthestraw,whoseProteinis4.53%DMandtheCBis40.11%DMwhilethedaterejectspresent2278Kcal/kgDM.Recovery/valorizationoftheseelementsresultfromthepalmplantationcoversdimensionsenvironmental,socioculturalandeconomic.Itmakesthenpossibletocleanthephoenicicolesexploitationsandthustoimprovethelandscapesights.Itgeneratesemploymentandwealthandandconvertswasteintoamorevaluableproductintheformofmeat.
