Comparative performance of two commercial egg strains, the indigenous chickens and their random bred progenies

Theperformanceoftwocommercialeggtypechickens,theindigenouschickens,andtheirrandombredprogeniesinbodyweight(BWT),bodyweightgain(BWG),feedconversionratio(FCR),bodyweightatfirstegg(BWFE),weightoffirstegg(WTFE)andageatsexualmaturity(ASM)werecompared.Theobjectivesweretoevaluatetheeffectofwithinstrainmatingontheperformancetraitsandtocomparethecostofraisingparentsandprogeniestopointoflay.Resultsindicatesignificant(p#8804;0.05)reductioninallthetraitsstudiedintheprogenies.Percentagesofinbreedingdepression(ID%)weresignificant(p#8804;0.05)forBWG1instrains1,2and3attcal3.57,9.37and10.00,respectively;BWG2instrains1and3attcal3.42and10.44,respectively;BWG3instrains1and2attcal12.80and16.46,respectively;FCR1andnbsp;FCR2nbsp;attcal-3.89and-5.50,respectivelyinstrain1,-7.41and-7.68,respectivelyinstrain2,and-4.93and-9.12,respectivelyinstrain3.Ttab,0.95forerrordf6forallvalueswas2.447.Thesechangesresultedindecreasesinfeedefficiency,reducedBWFEandWTFE,laterageatsexualmaturityandincreaseincostofproductiontopointoflayoftheprogenies.Therewasgreaterlossofperformanceinprogeniesofthecommercialhybridsthanforthoseofthelocalstrain.Therefore,exoticcommercialhybridchickensshouldnotbeusedasbreedersfortheproductionofreplacementday-oldchicksforcommercialeggproduction.
