Thepurposeofthistrialwastostudythepossibilityofatotalreplacementofthesoyabeanmealbytheseedsofbean(ViciafabamajorL)inthefeedofthefatteningrabbit.From42days(weaning)oldandfor5weeks,68rabbitsofwhiteAlgerianpopulationwerehousedincollectivecages(4rabbits/cage)andwereallottedintwogroups:34rabbitsofthecontrolgroupreceivedadlibitumapelletedfeedwithsoyabeanmeal(15%),and34rabbitsoftheexperimentalgroupreceivedafeedwith15%ofbeansseedsasatotalreplacementofthesoyameal.Theperformanceswerenotsignificantlyinfluencedbythetypeoffeed.From42to77daysofage,thegrowthwas25.6g/day,thefeedintakewas97g/dayandthefeedconversionratiowas3,75.Yieldandcarcasscharacteristicswerenotinfluencedbythetypeoffeed.Inconclusion,thesubstitutionofsoyamealbybeanseedsintheclassicalfeed(alfalfa32%,barley25%,wheatbran20%,soybeanmeal15%,straw6%,vitaminsandminerals2%)didnotinfluencedtheperformancesofthegrowingrabbit.Theseedsofbroadbeanisanalternativesourceofproteinstosoyabeanmealforthegrowingrabbit.Choosingthisoptionwouldcontributetofoodself-sufficiencyinAlgerianrabbitbreedingandwouldreducethefeedcosts.
