Atotalof384day-oldbroilerchickswereusedtostudytheeffectsongrowthperformanceofpartialortotalreplacementofmaizeinthestarterandfinisherdietswithcassavarootwastesupplementedornotwithpalmoil.nbsp;Thetreatmentsweremaizereplacementbycassavarootwasteatlevelsof0,50,75and100%;ineachcasewithHPorwothoutNHP3%palmoil.nbsp;Apartfromfeedconversionratio(FCR),allgrowthparametersdecreasedwithincreaseofcassavarootwasteinthediet.Nevertheless,supplementingwithpalmoil,irrespectivetothelevelofcassavarootwastesubstitution,demonstratedanbsp;productionadvantage.FCRwaspoorerby12,18and31%respectivelywith50,75and100%ofmaizereplacedwithunsupplementedcassavarootwaste,nbsp;whilethenegativeeffectonFCRwasonly5,8and8%withpalmoilsupplementedcassavarootwaste.Carcasscharacteristics,relativeweightofhead,legs,liverandabdominalfatincreasedwithcassavainclusionlevel,whiletherelativeweightofpancreasdecreased.Replacementofmaizewithcassavarootwasteinthedietssignificantlydecreasedthedevelopmentofdigestiveorganswiththelowestresultsrecordedwiththehighestsubstitutionlevel.Redbloodcellsandhaematocritcontentwerenotaffectedbyexperimentaldiets,whilecontroldietswithorwithoutpalmoilinducedthehighesthemoglobinconcentrationintheblood.Substituting75%ofdietarymaizewithpalmoilsupplementedcassavarootwasteresultedinproductionadvantages.
