Fecal digestibility and nitrogen balance in pigs fed different levels of Moringa oleifera meal

ToevaluatetheeffectofincludingdifferentlevelsofMoringaoleíferaleafmeal(0.10,20%)inastarterfeed,sixcastratedmalepigsofacommercialcrossbredof20kgliveweightwereallocatedtoadoubleLatinsquare3x3designwiththreetreatments.Theapparentdigestibilitiesofdrymatter,organicmatter,ashandnitrogenandthenitrogenbalanceweremeasured.Thetreatmentwhichincluded20%ofMoringaleafmealinthedietresultedinasignificantdecreaseindigestibilityofdrymatter(DM),organicmatterandcrudeprotein,withrespecttotherestofthetreatments.ExcretionofNinfecesandurineincreasedandNretentiondecreasedwithincreasinglevelofMoringaleafmealinthediet.Theresultssuggestthatitispossibletoincludeupto10%ofMoringaoleíferaleafmealinthedietofgrowing-fatteningpigswithoutaffectingdigestiveperformance.
