Inmanycountriesthereisanincreasinginterestinoutdoorpigproduction.However,gastrointestinalparasites(GIP)areaproblem,becausetheyreducetheproductiveperformanceoftheanimals.TheresearchreportedinthispapercomparedtheeggandoocystexcretionfromGIP,weightchangesduringpregnancyandlactation,andlitterperformanceofsowskeptintwoproductionsystems(outdoorvsindoor).nbsp;Eighteenprimiparoussowsofsimilaroriginweredividedintwogroups:Sixwerekeptinanindoorsystemandtwelveinanoutdoorsystem.Samplesoffaecesweretakenfromnbsp;eachsowaccordingtothefollowingscheme:sampleone(atmating),samplestwotoseven(at15,30,45,60,75and90daysofgestation),sampleeight(atfarrowing)andsamplenine(15daysafterfarrowing).ThesampleswereanalyzedusingthecentrifugeflotationandMcMastertechnique.Isosporawereprevalentin94nbsp;and41%ofthesowsintheoutdoorandindoorsystems,respectively.ThesowsintheoutdoorsystemhadahigherexcretionofoocystsfromIsospora(1224)thansowskeptindoors(206).Therewasnoeffectofproductionsystemonweightchangesofthesowsduringpregnancyandlactation,andonlitterperformance.TrichurisandStrongylidashowedprevalences£to33%andtheydidnothaveadefinedexcretion.nbsp;
