Feeding systems for fattening cattle on smallholder farms in Central Vietnam

AstudywascarriedouttoinvestigatefeedingsystemforfatteningcattleatsmallholderinCentralVietnamincluding:farmingresources,feedresources,feedintake,dietstructureandaveragedailygain(ADG)ofcattle.Atotalof40householdswererandomlyselectedtocollectdatabyrecordingdailyfrombeginningtoendoffatteningcattleprocess.nbsp;Resultsshowedthat100%ofhouseholdsusedatleasttwokindofconcentrateandmorethan65%ofhouseholdsusedelephantgrassornativegrassforcattle.Drymatter(DM)intakerangedfrom5.54to5.89kg/day.Concentrateandcrudeprotein(CP)proportionindietwasfrom24.0to37.0%and8.37to9.82%,respectively.TheADGofcattlewasfrom0.43to0.69kg/day.Inconclusion,feedresourcesforfatteningcattleatsmallholderwerevariety,ofwhichincludedconcentrateandroughagefeed,however,concentrateandCPproportionindietwaslow.
