Impact of improved chicken production on intra-household decision-making among fisherfolks in the Kainji Lake Basin, Nigeria

Twohouseholddecisionoutcomesweremeasurednamely,theprobabilitythatawifewouldtakedecisionsonmanagingherownextraincomeandincomefromthesaleofchickens,usingtheLogitmodelinastudycarriedoutamong120fisherfolksinfourfishingvillagesontheshorelinesoftheKainjiLake,Nigeria.nbsp;Resultsshowthatinabout43%ofthehouseholds,wivescontroltheirownextraincomewhileabout29%saiditwasjointlycontrolled.nbsp;Inaboutthesameproportion(28%)controlissolelybythehusbands.nbsp;nbsp;Youngerandbetter-educatedwives,wiveswithmoremarketingexperiencebeforemarriage,andthosewitholderhusbandsaremorelikelytotakedecisionsonmanagingextraincomebythemselves.nbsp;Althoughpositivelyrelatedtodecisionmakingprocessesbywives,keepingimprovedchickensisnotsignificant.nbsp;However,theexpectedprobabilitypointstoapotentialtowardsincreaseinsoledecisionbywivesonmanagingincomebyherwithanincreaseinthekeepingofimprovedchickens.
