Thirtytwocrossbredpigs(meaninitialweight11.33kg)werehousedinindividualpensandallocatedto8treatmentsaccordingtoa2*4factorialarrangement.Thefactorsweretwosourcesofenergy:brokenricecomparedwithcassavarootmealmixedwithricebran;andfourlevelsofcrudeprotein(10,12,14and16%indrymatter(DM)).Thesourceofsupplementarycrudeproteinwasamixture(50:50asDM)ofwaterspinachwithsweetpotatovines.Thedurationoftheexperimentwas150days,fromJuly02toDecember02,2006.nbsp;Therewerecurvilinearrelationshipsbetweendietarycrudeproteinconcentrationandliveweightgainandfeedconversionwiththeoptimumpointat14%crudeproteininthedietDM.Growthrateswerethesamebutfeedconversionwasbetterwhentheenergysourcewasbrokenriceratherthancassavarootmealandricebean.Growthratesandfeedconversionimprovedwithtimeontheexperiment.nbsp;
