Multiple-purpose trees used in live stock production in the hot and humid region of the State of Michoacán, Mexico

TheobjectiveofthisresearchwastodeterminethealternativeusesofforagetreesoftheRegiondeTierraCaliente,Michoacan,Mexico.Fifteensurveysweremadeinthe6countiesoftheRegion,togroupsofcattleraisers;informationaboutthetraditionalusesoftheforagetreeswasobtained.nbsp;IntheDistrictofRuralDevelopment093,thecattleraisersidentifiednbsp;theexistenceof80treeswithforageandalternativeusesfortheproducers.ThecountyofCar#225;cuaroshowedthegreaterdiversitywith73species;andtheonewiththelowerdiversitywasSanLucaswith17species.Theuseswere:forfuelwood(28.3%),postsforfences(25.2%),medicineforhumans(15.2%),manufactureoftools(14.6%),humanconsumption(13.5%)andmedicineforanimals(3.3%).Thetreeswiththehighestvarietyofusesare:Cordiaelaeagnoideswith64.3%,followedbyCrescentiaalata54.4%,Haematoxylonbrasiletto52.8%,Ziziphusamole46.1%,Pithecellobiumacatlense45.6%,Guazumaulmifolia45.2%,Pithecellobiumdulce42%,Caesalpiniacoriaria40.6%,Acaciamacilenta38.5%,Leucaenaleucocephala36.95%,Mastichodendroncapiri33.7%andLysilomadivaricata33.5%.Thetraditionalusesofthesetreesarediverseandrepresentapotentialintheirexploitation,providedtheusageisnottakentoexcess.
