Technical-economic impact of the concentrate / fodder ratio on the bovine dairy production: Case of the farming of Constantine

Theevaluationoftheshareoftheconcentrateinthefoodnbsp;ofthedairycowsanditseffectonthemilkproductionofthecattlefarmingofthewilayaofConstantinewasstudiedin12farmsaddingupalivestocknumberof865headswhich504dairycowsasamajorityofHolsteinandMontbélliardbreeds.nbsp;Itcomesoutfromthisstudythat:Thedairyyieldwhichisestablishedonaveragewith4500litre/cow/yearisrelativelylowcomparedwithwhatisobtainedbythesebreedsintheirnativecountries.nbsp;Foddersoccupyalimitedplaceintheyearlycroprotation.Asaresult,thefeedingofthecowsisheavilydependentonconcentratesupply.Thisconcentrateisnotusedefficientlywhichincreasedthefeedcosts(morethan55%ofthetotalfeedcosts).Theseresultsshowthecurrenttrendsofthedairycattle-rearinginAlgeria,mainlybasedontheconversionoftheconcentrateintoanimalproteinsduetotheweaknessoftheareasreservedfortheforagecropswhichcoveronly8%oftheUAA.
