Perionyxexcavatus,culturedinVietnaminearly1990s,showedanimportantroleinmanagingorganicwastesandsupplyingaverynutritiousfeedforanimals.Todevelopvermicultureinpractice,fourtreatmentsofdifferentsubstratesincluding100%freshcattlemanure(CM);cattlemanure+pigmanurein50:50ratio(CPM);cattlemanure+pigmanure+ricestrawin50:40:10ratio(CPMRS)andpigmanure+ricestrawin90:10ratio(PMRS)werepreparedtoexamineworms#8217;growthandtheirdecompositionefficiency.Allsubstrateswerecomposted45daysbeforefeedingtoworms.nbsp;Theresultshowedthatcattlemanure(CM)wasthebestsubstrateforwormgrowth(biomassgained713gafter45daysor242.6%ofgrowthrate).ThewormbiomassachievedinCPMRSandPMRStreatmentswassignificantlylowerthanthatinCMtreatment.Ascomparedtoprimarysubstrates,vermicompostsexhibitedanexcellentresultwithagreatincreaseintheamountoftotalP(0.3#8211;0.6%),totalK(0.09#8211;0.23%),Ca(0.51#8211;0.79%)andadecreaseinN-NH3andN-NH4+.nbsp;Astudywascarriedouttoevaluatetheinfluenceoffeedsupplementedwithwormsonthegrowthandmeatqualityofbroilerchickens(n=148).Startingat4weeksoldthechickensweredividedintoacontrolgroupandthreeexperimentalgroupscorrespondingtowormlevelsinthedietof1,1.5and2%onadrymatterbasisaccordingtoacompletelyrandomizeddesign.nbsp;Chickenfedthedietsupplementedwith2%wormshadthehighestliveweightat10weeks(1925g/headvs1823g/headforthecontrol).Percentageofbreastandlegmeatwasalsohigherthaninthecontrolgroup.ChickensinthethreewormgroupshadbetterFCR.Thedifferentlevelsofredwormsupplementationdidnotaffectmeatquality(pH,color,andtherateofdehydrationafterstorageandprocessing).
