A study on pig wastewater treatment with low cost biodigesters

nbsp;Theperformanceofa12.3m3ofbagbiodigestorforthetreatmentofswinewastewasstudied.nbsp;Wastecamefromasmallfarmof20fatteningpigsofHavanaprovince.nbsp;Removeoftotalsolids(TS),volatilesolids(VS)andthechemicaloxygendemand(COD)wererespectively74%,69%and71%.Temperaturesnbsp;ofwasteatentranceandexitwererespectively24.4and25Celsiusdegrees,whileenvironmentaltemperaturewas24.7Celsiusdegrees.Dailywasteperdaywas778literswhilewaterusingforcleaningthebarnwas694literstotalperdayand34.7litersperanimalperday.Theuseofwaterforcleaningwashigh,thushydraulicretentiontime(HRT)was15.9days.nbsp;Dailyproductionofbiogas(3.49m3)wasusedforcookingfoodforafamilyof6peopleincludingachild.A4placekitchenstovewasadaptedfortheuseofbiogasinsteadoftheuseofpetroleumliquidgas.
