?Posthumanism? is an increasingly prevalent concept with (at least) two meanings. First, it implies that we live in a time of collapsing scientific foundations of the human/animal divide. Second, it denotes a philosophical tendency which deconstructs the humanities' traditional notion of a unitary and specifically human subjectivity. These developments are particularly challenging for humanists who try to position themselves in an interdisciplinary landscape increasingly dominated by Life Science. What is the function of the humanities in a posthumanist era?
