On behalf of my coauthors, it is my great honor to receive the best paper award 2012 for our paper. Children withserious cerebral paralysis are prone to insufficiency fractures, but no preventive methods have been established.We reported in our paper that irradiation with a commercially available LED phototherapy system had beneficialeffects on the bone metabolism of children with serious cerebral paralysis. There is a possibility that LED irradiationmay normalize, amongst others, IGF-1, bone formation markers, bone and absorption markers. As a result of powerdensity measurements of the LEDs by the Japan Medical Laser Laboratory (JMLL), it has been found that the powerdensity from a single LED is 0.9 mW/cm2at the distance of 30 cm and that the number of LEDs in the array, irradiation distance, and irradiation time are important factors. Because this may become an inexpensive and safemethod to prevent insufficiency fractures that can be adopted for home use, my coauthors and I will continue ourstudy through recruiting and treating more cases.
