Abstract Three fungicides, thiram, captan, and benomyl, were tested alone or combined with 1BA for their ability to stimulate rooting or improve root quality of cuttings of Chrysanthemum morifolium ‘Poolys’, Cotoneaster conspicua, Choysia ternata, and Hebe andersonii ‘Variegate’. The fungicides usually either delayed root initiation or reduced root quality, mostly due to the concentrations used. Tolerance to high fungicide concentrations varied with species as well as with the different fungicides. In some cases these effects were modified by the presence or absence of IBA. A concentrated dip treatment of 0.4% IBA (2.0% for Choysia ternata) resulted in rapid prolific adventitious root formation on the cuttings.
