Production of seed of N.Z. Hybrid 30 onion

Abstract Seed of N.Z. Hybrid 30 onion was produced in economic quantities at Levin from synchronous plantings of the A and C line bulbs in July or early August, despite poor co-ordination of flowering time of the lines. Limited staggered planting or controlled emperature storage of the C line bulbs improved co-ordination of flowering but did not increase seed yields. Seed yields at Lincoln were low, and this was attributed to heat damage to the flowers.
