Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of meticulous nursing care in elderly patients with lumbar disease during hospital stay. Methods A total of 238 elderly patients with lumbar disease were randomly divided into the control group(n=128)and the observation group(n=110). Both two groups received routine nursing care during treatment, and the meticulous nursing interventions were carried out in the observation group. The postoperative complications were observed. Self-made questionnaire was used to investigate the degree of physical and mental comfort, social relation and satisfaction to nursing service in patients of two groups. Results The incidence of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis, constipation, uroschesis and wound infection was lower in the observation group than that controls, with a significant difference(P0.05 or P0.01). Patients in the observation group had a higher rate of physical and mental comfort, social relation and nursing satisfaction compared with those in the control group, with significant difference(P0.01). Conclusion Meticulous nursing care is potentially effective in prevention of postoperative complication and improve the quality of life in elderly patients with lumbar disease during hospital stay.
