The experiment was performed on 600 pigs weighing about 30 kg. Animals were allocated to four groups 150 pigs in each. Group I (control) received standard mixture with soybean meal as the main protein source. In group II part of soybean meal was replaced by rapeseed cake. Amount of rapeseed cake was 5% in the grower period (up to 60 kg) and 10% in the finisher period. In group III these amounts were 10 and 20%, respectively. Group IV received 15% of rapeseed cake in both periods. Feed and water were given ad libitum. Glucosinolates content of rapeseed cake was analysed. Animals were slaughtered at body weight about 108 kg and their carcasses were estimated. Colour and water holding capacity of meat were determined. In the first period of the experiment body weight gains control and experimental animals were similar but in the second period fatteners which received rapeseed cake grew slowly and during the whole experiment body weight gains of animals of group III were significantly lower (P < 0.05). Feed consumption of animals fed with rapeseed was higher than that of controls but no significant difference in feed utilization was found. There was also no significant difference in carcass quality. Meat of experimental animals was brighter and had a higher water holding capacity. It was concluded that rapeseed cake can be a good replacer of soybean meal up to 15% level in fatteners feed.
