On February 4, 2019, the Board announced our OpenAccess publication plan for the NASIG ConferenceProceedings. Steve Oberg invited the chair of the UKSG,Andrew Barker, to the 2018 conference board meetingto propose a partnership between UKSG and NASIG.The board mulled the idea over in the months followingthe conference, carefully weighing the risks andopportunities. While this process occurred during thepast year, the groundwork for Open Access was severalyears in the making. Longtime members of the NASIGcommunity have discussed this need for at least adecade. A NASIG Proceedings Open Access Task Forcewas formed and presented their findings to the Boardon January 14, 2010. Moving forward with Open Accessat the time was a monumental hurdle due to lostrevenue from the publishing arrangements and theability of Proceedings volunteers to manage theworkload without professional editorial assistance.
