Thepurposeofthisstudywastocomparethepeakoxygenuptake(VOsub2peak/sub)measuredthroughstresstestingandthoseobtainedbypredictiveequations.Atotalof116elderlywomen(meanage66.7#177;5.8years)weresubmittedtoacardiopulmonaryexercisetestintreadmill(rampprotocol).Inaddition,VOsub2peak/subvalueswereestimatedthroughtheAmericanCollegeofSportsMedicine(ACSM)andFosterequations.MeasuredandestimatedvalueswerecomparedusingrepeatedmeasuresANOVA.CorrelationbetweenmethodswasexaminedusingPearsoncoefficientandagreementusingBlandandAltmanplot.BothACSMandFosterequationssignificantlyoverestimatedmeasuredVOsub2peak/sub(p0.001;meanof6.9and2.7ml.kgsup-1/sup.minsup-1/sup,respectively).TheACSMequationgeneratedgreatervaluesthantheFosterequation.Positiveandsignificantcorrelationwasobservedbetweenmeasuredandestimatedvalues(r=0.70;p0.01),whileagewasnegativelycorrelatedwithmeasuredVOsub2peak/sub(r=-0.31;p=0.001).Findingsshowthatfortheelderly,equationscommonlyusedoverestimateVOsub2peak/submeasuredbycardiopulmonaryexercisetest,pointingtocautionduringclassificationofcardiorespiratoryfitness./font
