Past research have shown that the furniture layout andorganization of rooms affect the way they are perceived andhence lead to different types of interactions patterns. Sommerfound that different furniture arrangements suggest differentdegrees and qualities of interaction;2 similarly, Canter andWools' study showed that an easy chair grouping where theoccupants sat at right angles to each other were seen as beingmore friendly than a desk grouping where the occupants of therooms sat opposite to each other. In a recent study thepresent author found the relationship between furniture densityand spaciousness evaluations of rooms to be of an inverted - Ushape.
