Reading Vulnerabilities Through Urban Planning History: An Earthquake-Prone City, Adapazar? Case From Turkey

In disaster studies, vulnerability is used to denote “the susceptibilityor potential for harm to social, infrastructural, economic and ecologicalsystems” (Pine, 2009, 136). As the nodes of critical systems of humanartefacts, urban areas are vulnerable to natural hazards, and suffer lossesfrom disasters. The vulnerability of urban areas is triggered by historical,social, political and physical factors which may pose crucial risks on thecontinuity of urban system.
