Bronchioloalveolar carcinoma (BAC) is a relatively rare tumor and represents a specific entity of non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) because of its epidemiology, histology, and prognosis. In our study we present the history of 34 patients (13 women and 21 men) who had been operated on between January 2001 and August 2005 in curative intention. According to the UICC classification 23 patients were in stage I, 3 in stage II, 5 in stage III, and 3 in stage IV. In patients with nodular BAC the upper and middle lobe were significantly more affected than the lower lobe. We performed 9 segment- or wedge resections, 23 lobectomies, 1 extended lobectomy, and 1 pneumonectomy. The four year survival rate was 70.3%, the recurrence free survival rate was 75.0%.
