The study was conducted to investigate the ability of green tea/vitamin C solutions to remove cadmium (U) from Ruditapes pkiiippinar画.The clams were cultured for 6 days in seawater mixed with different amounts of green tea/vitamin C solutions. Cadmium contents in different parts of Ruditapes philippinarum were determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Results showed that green tea/vitamin C solutions could reduce the cadmium (II) content in Ruditapes philippinarum, particularly in the visceral mass and gills. The removal rates of cadmium (II) were influenced by culture time, concentration of tea/vitamin C solutions, and characteristics of Ruditapes philippinarum tissues. The cadmium (II) in clams mainly accumulated in the visceral mass and gills. After being cultured for 1 days in Group C (6 L sea water mixed with 300 mL tea solution and 4g vitamin C), the removal rates in the visceral mass, abdominal foot, mantle and adductor muscle were 407, 111, 127 and 76 pgkg-1d-1, respectively. And that of gills was the highest at 447 pgkg-1d-1 after being cultured for 1 days.
