At this year’sBrown commencement weekend, Dr.Ellenbogen, who delivered the CharlesO. Cooke, MD, Distinguished VisitingLectureship, recalled the incident.“The Silver Fox put the letter asidewithout opening it, listened to me, andsaid: ‘I want you to perform to the bestof your ability. That’s all I ask of anymedical student at Brown – to live up tothe ability that brought you here,’ andhe summarily dismissed me.”
