摘要

Food, nutrition and exercise are integralfacets of our culture. At one point in theirlives, most Americans have started a diet, attempted to change eating habits, gainedor lost a few pounds and/or implementeda new exercise regimen in response toeither their own or others’ concerns aboutweight. These behaviors are often medicallybeneficial interventions that lead toa healthier and improved sense of self. Forsome individuals, however, thoughts andbehaviors related to food, health and bodybecome distorted, destructive and potentiallyfatal. At times, the margins betweenhealthy and unhealthy cognitions andbehaviors can be difficult to distinguish.
