Amodelpseudopotential,dependingonaneffectivecoreradiusbutotherwiseparameter-free,isproposedtostudytheequationofstatebyincorporatingthes-dhybridizationeffects.Anewcriterionfortheselectionoftheexchangeandcorrelationeffectsisalsoputforward.TheequationsofstateforCu,Ta,Mo,WandPthavebeenstudieduptothepressureof1000GPa.Thebindingenergy,pressure,bulkmodulusandfrequency-independentGrüneisenconstantasfunctionsofvolumefortransitionmetalsarecalculated.Thetheoreticalresultsarecomparedwithavailableexperimentalresults.Thesuccessfulapplicationto27metalshasconfirmedourformalism.
