This manuscript outlines theinvention of a miniaturized version of the conventional shock tube andhypersonic shock tunnel that is small enough to be mounted on a table top. Theshock tube (named as Reddy tube) works solely with the effect of human force,and the driver gas is pressurized by manual action of a plunger rod. Test canbe conducted within a shock Mach number range of 1.2 – 2.0. The extension ofthe Reddy tube into a table-top, single-pulsed, hypersonic shock tunnel (namedas Reddy tunnel) proves to be an important input into the field as it can beestablished as a fraction of the cost of a full-fledged facility, therebyproviding access to such experiments to virtually any person in theexperimental aerodynamic community.
