Containing Ebola virus infection in West Africa

Chance events in the early stages of an outbreak can have a large impact on its final size. Infected individu- als’ movement patterns, social interactions, beliefs about disease causation and trust in authorities can all influence the extent of transmission, and hence the scale of control measures required to stop the infection.
