Images of the Russian Saint Dukes Vladimir, Boris and Gleb in the Russian Art of the XVII Century (Monumental Painting Case Study)

The article discusses the images of St. Princes Vladimir, Boris and Gleb in the monumental painting of the XVII century, considers the interpretation of their figure in the movement of the historical situation and spiritual thoughts of this epoch. There are some topics in the iconography of the saints princes of that time: the theme of the Byzantine heritage; of the Old Testament antitypes; and of the dynastic continuity and strengthening of the new Romanov dynasty by emphasizing their relationship with the Holy princes, founders of the house of Rurik.
