The Global Brain Health Institute at Trinity College Dublin is looking for participants in a research study on a clinicalprediction tool. Kevin Lynch of The Gillan Lab at The Global Brain Health Institute says, “In mental health, it’s not that welack effective treatments, it’s that certain treatments will only work for certain people. Without tools that can tell us whattreatment is right for what person, mental health practitioners are forced to prescribe a first-line treatment and adopt await-and-see approach.“Patients who do not benefit after several weeks of treatment are moved to a second-line treatment and clinicians mustwait and see again. The associated burden on the patient and society is enormous.“The aim of our research study is to create a clinical prediction tool that will predict which treatment will work bestfor each individual person. In order for us to achieve our goal we require a large sample of patients who have just startedtaking an antidepressant which is why we are asking for the assistance of the pharmacy community. We are asking forpharmacists to help by displaying a small A5 study information board at the till or in a place that is visible to patients.
