The automotive sector is important in the economic development of the country, generating jobs and income in the production, distribution, maintenance and disposal of various products. However, the segment is responsible for the generation of waste of various kinds which under environmental protection laws should be properly disposed. In this sense, this paper investigated materials contaminated by hydrocarbons in the automotive sector, specifically the residual oil resulting from exchanges of three brands: Fiat (4422 vehicles), Honda (4246 vehicles) and Iveco (952 vehicles) and lubricant filters components of 981 vehicles of these brands located in the State of Goiás between 2014 and 2015. The variables analyzed were: new lubricating oil used in vehicles and wasted used oil, the size of the national and local fleet of vehicles, quantification of components of wasted grease filter, with estimates for Brazil and Goiás. The results showed that the amount of used and contaminated oil by the vehicle fleet is high and requires proper disposal through reverse logistics in compliance with the national solid waste policy, given the risks it offers. The recycled volumes are within the Brazilian target of 38.9% of the commercialized oil in 2016. Strategies to envisage new technologies for vehicle components, especially new oil filters that should be the object of research to mitigate the industry's impact. Goiás can and should contribute to Brazil with policies and partnerships between society, public sector and companies enabling the OLUC reverse logistics and oil filter components.
