摘要

In the present work, the parametric optimization method using Taguchis robust design is proposed for wire-cut electric discharge machining of Aluminum BIS-24345 alloy. In the recent past this material gained dominance, where high strength and/or hardness is required at elevated temperatures. So, experimentation has been done by using Taguchis L18 (21x37) orthogonal array. Each experiment was conducted under different conditions of pulse on time, pulse off time, peak current, flushing pressure of dielectric fluid, wire feed rate, wire tension, spark gap voltage and servo feed setting. The response of material removal rate is considered for improving the machining efficiency. Optimal combinations of parameters were obtained by this method. Mathematical and artificial neural network models has been developed relating the machining performance and process parameters. The study shows that the Taguchis method is suitable to solve the stated problem with minimum number of trails as compared with a full factorial design.
