Ad hoc networks are collections of mobile nodes communicating with each other using wireless media without any fixed infrastructure. Design of routing protocols for this kind of networks is very difficult due to dynamic characteristics of nodes. In this paper we identify the parameters of performance of a path and combine their impacts using fuzzy rule bases. A fuzzy controller named Route Evaluator (RE) is embedded in every node to incorporate intelligence in them. When a route-request packet reaches its destination through multiple paths, intelligent destination evaluates performance of all those routes using its own RE. Any one of the routes producing the best performance is chosen for communication.
