In this paper, we have designed a Neural Network based pattern classifier for recognizing Bengali printed characters. Here view-based approach is used for extracting features from individual characters and a neural network based classifier is built to analyze the performance of the view-based approach in various experimental setups. Different Bengali character samples have been taken and whole image of individual character is considered for view based analysis. The characteristic points are extracted from the characters using left-right view based approach. These points are then used to form a feature vector which represents the given character . Multi-Layer Perceptrons Neural network has been used and it was trained by back propagation algorithm to create this recognition engine. Internal shape of each character has been considered to generate the feature vector for individual images.
